Animation Fun

Here is a link to a new up and coming website for Animations and Animators, YouAnimator.   A great resource to post your FINAL animation videos.  The website is for posting your final short films or comical animations, to share and grow.

Along with being a place to post final work for all too see, YouAnimator also has its own webcomic of sorts that it is working on.  They will supply you with rigs, dialogues, storylines,  and even the wav files, to create a short comic strip in an ever growing story.  This can be a great resource if you're working on lip syncs and do not know what to do or how to do it,  Its all there for you!  Not only are you hand fed the script, when you finish you will become a part of a much larger story that others will want to watch and enjoy.  A great way to be discovered and hired!

Look familiar?

Think about where you may have seen this bear before..

This very interesting video was uploaded to YouTube a few days ago and was noticed on Twitter yesterday evening by reader Matthew Ebisu (@MattEbisu).

It purports to be a worn-out VHS copy of a vintage (c. 1983) TV commercial for Lots-O'-Huggin' Bear, aka Lotso, the most important new character in Toy Story 3. The idea is to (sneakily) convince viewers that Lotso was an actual toy from decades ago, like Chatter Telephone and Animal Lovin' Ken who appear in the movie.

After a bit of reading and research a number of things make clear that the commercial is, in fact, a brilliant viral video for 'TS3'.

First of all, nobody's ever mentioned before that Lotso was based on a real, classic toy. Secondly, no reference to The Huggin' Company alluded to in the commercial can be found anywhere on the web.

But the crucial piece of evidence comes in the form of a tweet. The Lotso video was posted by a new YouTube user named MrCrazycommercials. Another one of this user's videos was linked to by director Lee Unkrich on Twitter on April 16, a full three days before the Lotso commercial was uploaded. That's way too big a coincidence. Is MrCrazycommercials actually Mr. Lee Unkrich?

If you're wondering, Disney Consumer Products is rolling out a real-life strawberry-scented Lotso plush bear as part of the Toy Story Collection. They've already started arriving at some Disney Store retail outlets and are shipping from the Disney Store website.

Granny O'Grimm

A very funny well made short film and series all about those great stories gran would tell late at night. Take a look and enjoy... .. with the help of God.

This short film was written and performed by Kathleen O'Rourke, directed by Nicky Phelan and produced by Brown Bag Films in 2008. It has screened in numerous festivals and won several awards. Take a look here for the official video on her hompage.

We all know the Grimm fairytales. Granny's are grimmer...
Once upon a time there was a granny who dreamed of being the best granny in the whole world. Unfortunately, this granny was tormented by a lifetime of rage against the world and everyone in it. Luckily, nobody noticed what an angry old woman she had become because they took no notice of her one way or another. But there's only so much anger one old woman can repress before it BURSTS OUT FROM THE DEPTHS OF HER SOUL IN A SCREAMING FIREBALL OF BITTERNESS AND RESENTMENT!

...or a bedtime story, as Granny herself likes to call it.

Granny O'Grimm is a 26 x 11 min animated series. Each episode features Granny O'Grimm's desperate attempts to be the perfect granny to her three grandchildren, before the fairytales unleash her demons. Produced by Brown Bag Films and directed by Nicky Phelan, the series will be created in 3D & 2D computer animation.

A quick example of Granny's story telling:
"Eency Weency Spider, Climbing up the spout.
Down came the rain and washed the spider out.
Eency Weency Spider got washed down the drain,
And floated out to sea and was never seen again. Serves the big eejit right, going out in bad weather."

Check out the rest of her stories on her site here.

Animation Work

For all those who are more interested in the animation aspect of 3D here are two sites to help you get started on your own free time.

11 second club is an ongoing contest where they will give you an eleven second audio file to sync your animation too.  Sometimes it will be a clip from a movie or show, other times its just a music file or sound effects.  Makes for a good challenge.

CreativeCrash has a large database of free models and characters that you can use to animate with or as props.  Great for trying to do a few animations if you don't have a rigged model already.
